Cesar Santos Artist Statement
1963 was the year in which the Miami Marine Stadium was being built. Fast forward 55 years to witness a piece of history, a majestic seat showing off its scars. I am presenting the chair in its natural weathered condition, with its original colors and its illegal graffiti. As an artist I believe that any attempt to decorate the seat would be to erase its past. After the seat’s removal from its original environment, any type of intentional paint application will ruin its soul, its purity. I am humbled to present the chair in its natural state because, in this case, the passage of time carries more wisdom than my imposition to alter it. Time played a role in the aesthetics of this chair and I am here to admire its life.
